EKU Student-Athletes Extend 3.0 GPA Streak To 23 Consecutive Semesters

RICHMOND, Ky. – Eastern Kentucky University student-athletes earned a 3.20 overall GPA in the spring 2023 semester, the department's 23rd consecutive semester greater than 3.0. 



The 3.20 department GPA marks the third time in four years that EKU student-athletes have recorded a spring GPA of 3.2 or higher. Additionally, 104 student-athletes were named to the Dean's List with 67 student-athletes earning 4.0 GPAs. EKU has had at least 66 student-athletes tally spring GPAs of 4.0 in each of the last four years.



236 student-athletes finished the semester with at least a 3.0 GPA, the highest spring number on record. 



"We are so proud of our student-athletes, coaches, and Bratzke staff for once again putting forth tremendous effort to produce outstanding results in the classroom," said Vice President and Director of Athletics Matt Roan. "This success is the result of a lot of work that goes on behind the scenes. These numbers are especially a testament to the young women and men who represent EKU and the determination they have to succeed both inside and outside of competition"



Men's basketball, women's basketball and softball each improved on their 2022 spring GPA, while 16 of the department's 18 teams finished the semester with a cumulative 3.0 or higher. Women's cross country led all women's teams with a 3.65, while men's golf paced the men's teams with a 3.29. Volleyball (3.63) recorded its second-highest spring GPA on record.



14 teams had a least one student-athlete record a 4.0 during the spring, while 13 teams finished with multiple student-athletes with a 4.0. 20 percent of EKU's student-athletes ended the semester with a 4.0, while 71 percent of the department's student-athletes finished with at least a 3.0.
