Male Student Athlete of the Month - May
RICHMOND, Ky - Brentton Smith Ervin is a red-shirt sophomore from Louisville, Kentucky and is currently majoring in Sport Management. He is a transfer student from Kentucky State University and a walk-on for the football team. “Brentton is a regular in my office,” said Marina Coleman, one of his academic advisors. “I know he has had two rough semesters previously, but regardless, he has not let those semesters define him and who he can be. If he’s struggling with anything, I know that he will come get the necessary help or guidance to understand the material. He is definitely a prime example of “Life is 10% of what happens to you and 90% of how you react to it.”
When he is not working on his own assignments and projects, Brentton can be seen helping out his teammates or other students stay on top of their own assignments during study hall. “Through the weekly STAR meetings, he has told me that he is determined to earn a 3.0 GPA this semester and continue to do well in school,” said Alex Szarabajko, the GA that has been helping him in the Bratzke Center. “I personally think that he is on a good path to accomplish his goals.”
Outside of football, he has volunteered with the Madison County Special Olympics flag football team throughout the school year. His future plans include working in the sport management field either as a coach or athletic director.
