Colonel Club Golf Classic
Despite a few passing rain clouds, the 2015 Colonel Club Golf Classic, presented by Kentucky Bank, featured excellent golf and fellowship on Thursday. The University Club at Arlington hosted a field of more than 180 golfers at the annual fundraising event.
Benefiting more than 300 EKU student-athletes, the tournament brings together members of the community, corporate partners, Colonel Club members and athletics department coaches and staff.
This year's champions, crowned in three divisions based on team handicaps, each won a $100 gift card from the University Club at Arlington pro shop.
The team of Tom Giacchini, Lee Sewell, Justin Moore and Donnie Rardin secured the victory in Flight A. John Gray, Blake Hymer, Myles Ashley and Brad Smith took first in Flight B while Rob Ciolek, Keith Hafer, Roger Ross and J.T. Ross were victorious in Flight C.
Prizes were also awarded to folks who won the longest drive (Amanda Stepp-Marcum and Drew Alexander) and closest to the pin (Bryan Wehrman and Ricky Terrill) contests. Joe Blankenship captured the longest putt title. EKU tennis coach Rob Oertel claimed the putting contest sponsored by EKU's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC). Unfortunately, hole number 16 did not yield the hole-in-one that would have sent a golfer home with a 2015 Ford Mustang.
One of the highlights of the day was the live auction held after lunch. Auction items included a round of golf and two-night stay at the Oakmont Country Club in Pittsburgh (site of the 2016 U.S. Open), two tickets behind the bench for the EKU versus Kentucky men's basketball game, two seats on the chartered flight and tickets to the EKU football game at North Carolina State and a reserved suite for 12 people at a Cincinnati Reds game.
The Colonel Club would like to thank all of the event sponsors, specifically title sponsor Kentucky Bank, beverage sponsor Pepsi, lunch sponsor Aramark/EKU Dining Services and dinner sponsor Outback Steakhouse for their contributions. A complete list of 2015 hole and cart sponsors can be found by viewing the official tournament program.
The Colonel Club greatly appreciates its members and their constant support.
