Colonel Scholar Night 2015
RICHMOND, Ky. - The Bratzke Student-Athlete Academic Success Center, in association with the EKU Department of Athletics, hosted its annual Colonel Scholar Night in conjunction with the men's basketball game versus Jacksonville State on Thursday, Feb. 26. This year, 289 student-athletes were recognized for achieving a 3.0 grade point average during either the spring 2014 or fall 2014 semesters, earning the designation as Colonel Scholars. All 17 varsity athletic teams, along with the cheer and dance teams, were honored with a pizza party prior to the basketball game, and were introduced on the court at halftime. It is noteworthy that 211, or 63% of EKU's student-athletes, earned a 3.0 grade point average this past fall semester. The cheer and dance teams had a total of 37 members achieve a 3.0 GPA as well. Kate Johnson, Director of the Bratzke Center, is credited with planning and coordinating the event, and it should be acknowledged that there was tremendous assistance from Tessie Bowman, Josh Shipp, Catherine Ransdell, Catherine Thompson, and Corey Neal. A special thanks was also extended to Rachel Park, Director of Athletic Marketing, Lindsey McKaskle, Assistant Athletics Director for Compliance and Student Success/SWA, and Kirk Moats, Compliance Coordinator. The annual event is part of the continuing effort to place a premium on academic excellence and to recognize the scholarly achievements of EKU's student-athletes.
